SIMPLICIO PLAN

There's noting quite like building your own guitar! This PDF contains 4 pages of highly detailed plan drawing of a late 1920’s Francisco Simplicio guitar. The plans are full size for 18x24" printing, computer drawn, and highly detailed with dimensions and information for building a guitar replicating the luthier style of Simplicio. Features of this plan include:
-650mm scale.
-Asymmetrical soundboard bracing innovated by Simplicio.
-Accurate drawing of one of Simplico’s headstock designs inspired from his mentor, Enrique Garcia.
-All key body dimensions and measurements in millimeters.
-Details of soundboard bracing, cross bracing, and upper bout reinforcement.
-Details of back bracing, center strip, and Spanish heel dimensions.
-Details of full neck, including the headstock in both side and top profile.
-Side view section showing radius doming of soundboard and back and placement of braces.
-Various key parts including: neck shape, bridge dimensions, neck depth at key points, etc.

For the newer builder, a plan with this level of detail is crucial. I’ve included all measurements that I would have wanted when I first started building and often found missing in other plans, even from major luthier supply companies. For the more experienced builder, it will be easy to incorporate your own personal construction choices.

SIMPLICIO SOLERA

The guitar solera is the traditional workboard method used in the construction of classical guitars. It serves as a mold on which the guitar's body is assembled, ensuring proper shape and alignment. Typically made from wood or MDF, the solera holds the guitar's sides, top, and back in place while they are glued together.

This solera template pairs with the Simplicio plan to help you create an accurate build while easing some of the more challenging steps in the guitar construction process. Please note that this solera template does not contain detailed measurements that are provided in the Simplicio plan. The design includes suggestions for dishing the soundboard and angling the neck, but you can adjust this parameters based on your own process. The template plan is supplied as a PDF file, which can be printed at full scale and used as an accurate guide for building your own solera.

The solera helps luthiers achieve consistent and accurate results and is a crucial tool in the classical method of guitar making, providing stability and precision throughout the construction process.

NOTE: Immediate download of a high resolution, full-size PDF that is ready to print at a print store, on a large format printer. The Plan is made to print on 18x24” paper and the Solera is made to print on 24×40” paper.
